When I said, “My foot is slipping,” your love, O LORD, supported me. When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul.

Forest Gump is an interesting movie. As a child, Forest was crippled. Even with braces his feet slipped. He also suffered from mental limitations. In life’s difficult situations, anxiety was great within him.
Despite his lameness, Forest became an excellent runner, even a football star. He served his country in Viet Nam, and in the heat of battle his swift feet saved lives.
Later, a business venture appeared doomed from the start. It took the anxiety of a storm to lunge it into the greatest prosperity. Personally, he suffered the heartbreaking loss of his dear mother. After marrying his life-long sweetheart, she too died. Forest Gump is the story of a weak man who slipped every step of the way in anxious circumstances, but wonderfully was always brought through in blessing.
This is true for the children of God, and so much more! The Lord is the source and cause of our life of security and blessing. Our Lord died on the cross and rose from the dead. He has defeated our every enemy and everything that threatens us. He forgives us when we don’t fully trust him amid life’s anxieties. He faithfully supports us when our feet slip. He causes all things in life to work out for our good, to finally bring us home safely to heaven.
What difficulties in your past has the Lord turned into blessing? What slippery steps and anxious thoughts are you struggling with today? Be assured, the Lord is supporting you with his faithful love and salvation. His consolations bring joy to your soul already now, and forever.
Prayer:
Lord, when my foot is slipping, support me in your saving love. In my anxious thoughts, console me with the joy of your salvation. Amen.
