Extracurriculars

Resurrection Lutheran School offers students in 2nd through 8th grade with the opportunity of weekly piano lessons. The lessons are provided by Mrs. Polfer during the school day each Tuesday and Thursday. Opportunities are given to advanced students to play during chapel. The year will culminate with a Spring Piano Recital.

All boys and girls in 4th – 8th grade have the opportunity to play soccer. The soccer season consists of games played during the months of August, September, and October against teams from the C.A.L.L. (Chicago Area Lutheran League) and from the surrounding area. Practices and games take place after school on various days of the week. To end the season, a league tournament is held at Resurrection during the middle of October. The soccer schedule coordinates with the softball schedule to allow all 4th – 8th grade boys and girls to participate in both activities if they are interested.

All boys and girls in 4th – 8th grade have the opportunity to participate in coed basketball. Practices and regular season games are held throughout the week in the months of December, January, and February. The season consists of games played against teams from the C.A.L.L. (Chicago Area Lutheran League) and from the surrounding area. The tournaments occur during the first two weekends in March. The C.A.L.L. tournament takes place at Lord & Savior Lutheran School in Crystal Lake, IL and the Luther Prep basketball tournament takes place at Luther Preparatory School in Watertown, Wisconsin.

All boys and girls in 4th – 8th grade participate in track. The track season takes place during the middle of March and ends the beginning of May. Practices are conducted during recess and Physical Education classes. The season concludes with an optional C.A.L.L. (Chicago Area Lutheran League) meet at a location in the Chicagoland area.

Our 4th – 8th grade students have the opportunity to participate in the C.A.L.L. (Chicago Area Lutheran League) SpBAM (Spelling, Bible, Art & Math) competition in April of each school year. Mr. Essig and Mrs. Bauman select students to participate in the individual and team events. to participate in the individual and team events. Students who compete in the math competition take individual tests and also participate in the team competition. There are a wide variety of art categories to choose from and students are allowed to submit two projects they create during the school year.

Our 4th – 8th grade students are required to participate in forensics at Resurrection. This is a great opportunity for our students to work on their public speaking skills. Students practice during the school day with teachers and volunteers. Each student performs his/her piece at our forensics night in November. Students also have the opportunity in November, if they so choose, to go to Illinois Lutheran High School in Crete, IL to participate in the C.A.L.L. (Chicago Area Lutheran League) forensics meet. Here they have the opportunity to participate against our area Lutheran grades schools as individuals and as a team.

All boys and girls in kindergarten - 3rd grade have the opportunity to participate in any of the Junior Panthers athletics programs. Soccer is offered in the fall, basketball in the winter, and volleyball in the spring. Practices take place after school one day a week. The games are scrimmages in which the Junior Panthers play one another. The games are at Resurrection one day a week.
